Description
The Ability Shutdown
Iron Thorns ex introduces a powerful control element to the game with its 'Initialization' Ability. While it's in the Active Spot, it turns off the abilities of all Pokémon with a Rule Box (ex, V, VMAX, etc.), except for Future Pokémon. This can completely cripple many of the format's top decks, shutting down crucial engines like Charizard ex, Chien-Pao ex, or Radiant Greninja.
Strategic Application
The goal with Iron Thorns ex is to use its ability to lock your opponent down while you build your own board. Its 'Volt Cyclone' attack allows it to deal damage and then pivot into another attacker, preserving the Iron Thorns to be used again later. It's a high-impact tech card that creates a unique and disruptive board state for any Future-based deck.
